Memes are funny jokes and images, pictures, mashups, and comics. Images of meme characters, dank counterparts of characters (based on TV shows, video games, and others), and MOAR! could be sources of memes, dry memes, and dank memes.
So we're saying that memes are like memes, more or less, with an element related to memes. And that memishness would automatically make it a meme. So if Leonardo da Vinci put words above and below the Mona Lisa, it would have been a meme. But he didn't, so is it still a meme? Or a proto-meme? Or a yet-unborn meme? Memologists and 4chan editors aren't sure.
