Crisps

Crisps are a snack food. Crisps is a British word whereas Americans use the term chips or more accurately, junk food.

These are typically made of potatoes or grains. Unlike British chips, crisps are often whole potatoes deep fried in North Sea oil with a bit of salt and perhaps other seasonings with more oil added before packaging into convenient 20 kg packets. Thus, the term "crisps" derives from the sound of one's teeth snapping into bits when biting down on these popular snacks.
